Must have the following qualities: The use of normal cement mortars has been proved to be unsatisfactory because of the shrinkage of the fresh concrete causing detachment between the old and new materials or cracks in the repair itself. Clan have worked with Mapei to produce concrete repair mortars which have controlled expansion, now found in the pre-measured Mapegrout mortars creating a pre-compression in the material which cancels or reduces the negative effects of the shrinkage that follows. Once repair works have been completed a levelling coat such as Mapefinish should be applied to both the repaired concrete and, to give a uniform appearance, to the existing concrete surfaces. To further improve the protection against carbonation, and if necessary to give colour to the concrete, Elastocolor acrylic resin paint can be used. Elastocolor has a high permeability to the passage of vapour and gives the structure a more attractive appearance, as Elastolcolor is available in 24 standard colours.
