In its heyday, the Bryant and May Match factory in Speke, Liverpool, manufactured 160 million matches a year. This beautiful art-deco, Grade II listed building, built in 1919 is part of Liverpool’s industrial heritage. Urban Splash engaged the services of award-winning architect Shed KM to transform the building into a high-quality business park.

Clan has worked with Urban Splash and Shed KM on a large number of projects and were considered a natural partner choice for the Match Factory project.

Clan carried out concrete repairs to all elements of concrete from the main frame to the water tower on the roof and the internal floors. Following the concrete repairs, all exposed concrete elements received a fairing coat and elastomeric anti-carbonation coating. Decorative sprayed renders were also applied to add contrast. Contract period phase I 6 months, phase II 6 months and total contract sum, circa £750,000.
